On『Small Talk』Tour
Wakiki: You just wrapped up a European tour this past February in support of 『Small Talk』. Looking back on the tour, how do you feel about it? Were there any particular moments, or unforgettable experiences with fans, that stand out?
Julien: We were pretty blown away by the number of people that were singing along to all of the new songs honestly. The entire tour was great but Paris, Copenhagen, Geneva, and London were probably the big highlights. We did two nights in London. One at a big church in Hackney and one at a small legendary club down the road called Moth Club so it was very nice to have the contrast there and get all sweaty on the last night of tour.
The Past Ten Years
Wakiki: From the comforting, folk-rock charm of your early work, to the more experimental sound you explored on 『SPARK』, to 『Small Talk』, where that early sense of nostalgia and the new elements you found on 『SPARK』 seem to blend naturally, how do you look back on this decade-long evolution of your sound? Was there a particular moment, or a song, that marked a turning point toward seeking out different forms of expression?
Julien: I mean the pandemic was a pretty big moment for everyone but for me it really gave me a chance to learn how to play piano. As far as specific songs go I think writing “Evangeline” was a recent pivotal moment though I’m not really sure why. I think it just confirmed that there’s a specific type of well that we can return to from time to time and occasionally find something that feels timeless to us. And getting to include Madison Cunningham on that track was important to us too because collaboration is something that we want to remain open to in the future but we never want to force it. So trusting our gut with Madison and having it turn out so well brought us a lot of affirmation.

from the 4th Studio Album 『Small Talk』
Wakiki: Looking back over these ten years, what do you feel has changed, and what do you feel has stayed the same?
Julien: I think we value and enjoy our time in the studio a lot more than we used to honestly.
