Songwriting That Invites You Into a Story
-Wakiki: Many of the songs give me the feeling of stepping into a story. What kinds of experiences, landscapes, emotions, or other things tend to inspire you or become the starting point for a song?
June: I really love old movies and the way they allow you to feel like you can step back in time or just to another space that feels seperate from our reality now. Everytime I make music I end up trying to create a space that feels sort of like that.

A Musical Journey with Evan Wright
-Wakiki: I understand that Follow The Light is a work you spent a long time creating with your longtime partner and collaborator, Evan Wright. What do you find most rewarding about making music together with Evan?
June: Evan and I have been making music together since college and also come from a similar musical background of studying jazz. When we first started to make things together we found a natural chemistry of working that is still the same today. We both really love the same music so anytime I am referencing something I’d like to hear in my songs Evan just understands. He’s is a really special person to work with and we’re both so grateful to have grown together through our music over the years.
The Message Behind the Album Title
-Wakiki: The album title, Follow The Light, comes from the closing track. What made you choose these words as the title for the album as a whole?
June: I named the album after this song on the record because it sort of turned out to be the overall encompassing message a lot of the songs shared. To continue to follow on your path and to use positive light to guide you.
