Who is Faerybabyy, the so-called Fantasy Gal Post-Punk?

Last Updated on 2025-02-22 by a-indie

This time, we introduce the new artist Faerybabyy—based in California.

She has been drawing significant attention in the United States with a unique blend of post-punk, surf goth, and hypnagogy punk.
Here in Japan, she is even referred to as a “Fantasy Gal Post-Punk” artist.

In this article, we delve into Faerybabyy’s allure through the interplay between Aria, a researcher with deep musical expertise, and the enigmatic creature PuniPon, who strives to understand things in her own quirky way.

Although naturally shy and introverted, Faerybabyy has already garnered a passionate fanbase with her upbeat, pop-infused music and fashion.

Through their conversation, we present both the unique world she creates and the emotions behind her latest album, Jabbermouth.

Please note: This project is our new challenge at A-inde/BELONG Media—to see just how much of music’s magic we can convey through a character-driven column.

PuniPon, is something wrong? Are you looking for something?
Punipon
Punipon
Ah, Aria, I was planning to try out makeup a bit, so I borrowed your makeup kit. How do I use this?
Dr.Aria
Dr.Aria
Hey, that lipstick isn’t mine! And why on earth did you decide to do makeup?
Punipon
Punipon
But you mentioned that the next artist we’d introduce is something like “Fantasy Gal Post-Punk,” didn’t you? So I thought I’d try being a gal for a change!
Dr.Aria
Dr.Aria
“Fantasy Gal Post-Punk,” right? PuniPon, you’ve come up with something mischievous again… Besides, I hardly ever do makeup normally—I get all sweaty during experiments.
Punipon
Punipon
Eh!? Aria, you don’t dress stylishly even in the lab?
Dr.Aria
Dr.Aria
I’m a researcher, so I’m more of a nerd than a gal… And you know that under my lab coat I’m often still in my pajamas…

I see… But look, I even wrote “PuniPon’s Lab” on the microwave with this lipstick ♪

Oh no, now I have to clean up again… Besides, we shouldn’t be doing this when we’re about to introduce such an important artist! 😡

Who is Faerybabyy?

Faerybabyy (フェアリーベイビー)

Dr.Aria
Dr.Aria
From here on, we present information directly provided by Faerybabyy for A-inde/BELONG Media. First, let’s talk about the artist Faerybabyy.

“Faerybabyy (real name: Peyton Morse) hails from Conroe, Texas. She has chosen not to disclose her age. In 2021, she began her musical career under the name Faerybabyy. Before embarking on her solo career, she played bass in a band called Castle Beat. Known as a shy and introverted artist, she enjoys various forms of art including music, knitting, and painting. Renowned for her gentle personality and unique fashion sense, she loves cosplay and dress-up games. A fan of anime and Japanese films, she adores director Hiroaki Yoshida’s The Twilight of Cockroaches and Studio Ghibli works—her room is decorated with four Ghibli posters. The name “Faerybabyy” originates from her fascination with fairies; as a child, she built a fairy house in her backyard and was particularly enamored with the TV drama Fairy Tale Theater starring Sherry Dubal.”

Dr.Aria
Dr.Aria
PuniPon, Faerybabyy is a new artist active in California who is garnering attention in the post-punk scene. Though her appearance might seem flashy, she is actually very introverted and reserved. Yet, she pours her passion into her music.
Punipon
Punipon
Wow! Even with a name like that, she’s so shy! Maybe I’ll build a fairy house inside the microwave too ♪
Dr.Aria
Dr.Aria
PuniPon, please stop messing with the microwave 😅. She truly loves fairies—especially influenced by Sherry Dubal’s drama Fairy Tale Theater. Not only that, but she’s also a huge fan of anime and Japanese films; her room is adorned with four Studio Ghibli posters!
Punipon
Punipon
I see! Matt from Australia mentioned he’s a fan of Ghibli too, so Studio Ghibli is popular overseas as well! What kind of musical activities has Faerybabyy been involved in so far?
Dr.Aria
Dr.Aria
That’s right! She used to play bass in a band called Castle Beat, but she began her solo career as Faerybabyy in 2021.
Punipon
Punipon
So she switched from Castle Beat to becoming a fairy! The contrast of a fairy doing post-punk is really appealing, isn’t it?
Dr.Aria
Dr.Aria
Post-punk is known for its edgy image, so this mix feels refreshingly new! It seems she not only loves music but also enjoys drawing and knitting. She’s especially fond of dress-up games and has a distinctive sense of style!
Punipon
Punipon
Dress-up games?! W-well, speaking of which, I’m not even wearing any clothes… Aria, bring me some outfits that suit me!

About Faerybabyy’s Musical Style

Faerybabyy (フェアリーベイビー)

Dr.Aria
Dr.Aria
Now, we will present information directly provided by Faerybabyy regarding her musical style and expression.

“Faerybabyy describes her music as a mix of post-punk, ‘surf goth,’ and ‘hypnagogy punk.’ She is an independent artist who creates music based on her own convictions.”

Dr.Aria
Dr.Aria
Faerybabyy describes her music as a blend of post-punk, surf goth, and hypnagogy punk. That’s quite a few genres—it might be a bit overwhelming for you, PuniPon!
Punipon
Punipon
Hmm, with all those katakana words it almost sounds like a spell! But “surf goth” gives off a cool vibe—like surfing while fighting ghosts! And “hypnagogy punk”… um, is it like a punk style with hypnotic qualities? A drowsy kind of punk, perhaps? Yaaaawn… I’m getting sleepy.
Dr.Aria
Dr.Aria
Aaaaah… PuniPon’s yawn is contagious 😻. “Surf goth” refers to a subgenre of surf rock with a dark, moody atmosphere. “Hypnagogy punk” describes that hazy, mysterious music which feels as if it’s heard in a dream.
Punipon
Punipon
Oh, really! “Hypnagogy punk” sounds like it might be like a ghost baby singing a lullaby or something? I might actually like that!
Dr.Aria
Dr.Aria
I’m not so sure about that interpretation… By the way, in the realm of “surf goth,” bands like Wavves are well-known, and for “hypnagogy punk,” Ariel Pink is famous.

Faerybabyy’s Creative Process and Visuals

Faerybabyy (フェアリーベイビー)

Dr.Aria
Dr.Aria
Now, let me introduce Faerybabyy’s creative process and visuals.

“Her creative philosophy is to cherish the ‘magic of the first day.’ She adopts her initial creations as they are, and if a song doesn’t turn out well, she lets it go without overthinking and moves on. Typically, she completes a song within 2 to 8 hours. When writing, she visualizes her music like a movie, jotting down all her lyrics on a smartphone’s note app whenever inspiration strikes. Her music-making is a collaborative process with those around her. She has always harbored a passion for filmmaking, which deeply influences her creative process.”

“Most of Faerybabyy’s music videos stem from the creative ideas shared by her and her close friend, Francis Iridian. Francis handles all the editing after shooting. Although they primarily use a green screen for filming, they sometimes shoot on real locations. For example, the music video for ‘Connie’ was filmed at a mini-golf course with friends. ‘Connie’ is inspired by Avril Lavigne’s ‘Girlfriend,’ but it is portrayed from the perspective of a woman betrayed by her best friend and boyfriend. Above all, having fun is the most important aspect in producing all of her music videos.”

Dr.Aria
Dr.Aria
It seems that for her, the most important aspect of songwriting is whether the “magic takes hold” from the very beginning. In my view, she truly cherishes that “eureka” moment.
Punipon
Punipon
Wow, so she creates songs like a wizard! Does that mean the spark of inspiration itself becomes a magic spell that gives birth to a song?
Dr.Aria
Dr.Aria
That’s not entirely off the mark. She believes that “the moment of inspiration is when magic dwells.” She calls it the “magic of the first day,” meaning that her initial creations are often preserved as they are. If a song doesn’t work out, she doesn’t dwell on it and simply moves on. Sometimes, she even finishes a song in as little as 2 to 8 hours.
Punipon
Punipon
So, does that mean Aria could be making a song while I’m asleep!
Dr.Aria
Dr.Aria
Exactly 😅. Furthermore, she values the imagery that unfolds in her mind during the creative process—melding sound and visuals as if she were crafting her very own movie.
Punipon
Punipon
It’s amazing—like a film director expressing the inner scenes of their soul through music!

Faerybabyy’s New Album Jabbermouth

Dr.Aria
Dr.Aria
Now, let me introduce Faerybabyy’s new release, Jabbermouth.

“After the release of her previous EP Lucky Star, she began working on Jabbermouth. This album is based on her personal experiences—there were times when her excessive chattiness caused problems and made her feel like a burden to those around her. The music video for Jabbermouth is inspired by The Wizard of Oz and her personal beliefs, featuring a scene where a witch is defeated using a cross; the video also contains hidden hints connecting to her other music videos. Compared to her earlier work, Jabbermouth presents a lighter, more upbeat sound. This album was created to fulfill her childhood dream of becoming like the members of a male indie rock band she once adored. Once the album was completed, she felt she had realized that image of the man she longed for. After this release, she plans to return to her usual musical style.”

“Her current favorite track is ‘keep u safe in my back pocket.’

Regarding ‘Me, Myself & God’:
During the production of this song, a strange event occurred. One of the two monitors used by the producer— which had been broken for two and a half years—suddenly started working during the production, only to stop again as soon as the song was finished. She interprets this as a sign from God.”

Dr.Aria
Dr.Aria
It appears that this album is inspired by her real-life experiences. The title Jabbermouth comes from the fact that she sometimes talks too much, which can lead to trouble or make her feel burdensome.
Punipon
Punipon
Talking too much, huh? I’m always chatting, so I feel a bit of kinship!
Dr.Aria
Dr.Aria
Perhaps she has more in common with you than you think, PuniPon. The music video is inspired by The Wizard of Oz and her religious views, and apparently features a scene where a witch is defeated using a cross. It even includes hidden elements referencing her past videos.
Punipon
Punipon
The Wizard of Oz! I’d love to go on an adventure with Dorothy too! Defeating a witch with a cross—that sounds so cool! Faerybabyy might look cute, but she could really be a fighting fairy!

Aria, what is Siouxsie and the Banshees?

Dr.Aria
Siouxsie and the Banshees were a British post-punk band active from the late 1970s to the 1980s, known for their distinctive gothic sound and fashion which greatly influenced later music scenes.
