“We want to create a secret hideout for the indie music we love”——The music media BELONG/A-indie, which has been experimenting with this concept for many years, has finally launched its official Discord server.

As a new community connecting the overseas network cultivated through over 10 years of music media operations with Japanese indie rock fans, we are opening for pre-launch starting today.

Creating a Secret Hideout for Indie Music

Our online analog listening party for the album ‘Goddess’ by Fay Milton (Goddess) from Savages, which we held in June this year.

Although it was our first attempt, we received feedback from participants saying they “discovered new ways to enjoy music.”

What we painfully realized there was that despite publishing articles continuously for 10 years, we had almost no bidirectional interaction with our readers.

Also, we had very few opportunities to create real-time shared experiences that brought together artists and readers.

From that recent event, we strongly felt the necessity for a community where readers, ourselves, and artists can all comfortably enjoy music together.

So we focused on the Discord platform to create a “secret hideout for indie music.”

What is Discord?

Discord is a communication tool originally developed for gamers, but is now utilized by communities in various fields including music, art, and learning.

Unlike LINE groups or Twitter, it’s a multifunctional platform that integrates text chat, voice calls, and screen sharing capabilities.

What’s particularly attractive for music communities is the “Watch Together” feature that allows all participants to simultaneously watch YouTube videos or listen to Spotify tracks,

as well as the ability to share real-time impressions and conduct participatory projects using voting functions.

It’s truly an ideal environment for “enjoying music together.”

Realizing a Borderless Indie Community

The biggest purpose of establishing this Discord server is to share the appeal of the indie rock we truly love, not only domestically in Japan but also with people overseas.

We aim to function as a bridge connecting the network with overseas artists that BELONG/A-indie has built up over many years with domestic core indie rock fans.

As an unprecedented music experience, we want to provide real-time interaction with overseas artists, the excitement of sharing music with fans around the world at the same moment,

and above all, the sense of security that “there are people here who understand the beauty of this music.”

Special Experience with Early Participant Limited “Pioneer” Role

We will grant a special role “Pioneer (initial member)” to the first 50 early participants during the pre-opening period.

Pioneer members can be more deeply involved in community management with features like adding emojis and conducting polls that are not available to general participants.

In the future, we plan to have direct opinion exchanges with management and preliminary consultations for new projects in dedicated channels limited to initial members.

We want you to participate in the special experience as “pioneers” who will create this community together.

About Future Projects

Planning Fuji Rock 2025 Real-time Viewing Event

In the immediate future, we are planning a real-time viewing event during this year’s Fuji Rock period.

Music fans who cannot go to the venue can also share the excitement of live performances at the same moment while watching Twitch’s real-time streaming on Discord, enjoying impression exchanges and discussions about songs.

Special Project with Overseas Artists in September

As the culmination of the pre-opening period, we are also planning a real-time music video listening event in September.

We plan to provide opportunities for direct interaction with overseas artists, making it a truly special project that utilizes BELONG/A-indie’s unique international network.

Details will be announced later, but we are also preparing commemorative benefits limited to participants.

Full Operation Scheduled for Early August

During the current pre-opening period, we are adjusting server functions and organizing community rules based on feedback from participants.

Full operation is scheduled to begin in early August, and we expect to provide more enhanced functions and content at that time.

We will grow into an ideal music community while valuing the voices of participants.
