Metal Gear’s Sniper Wolf Lives On in Crushed’s ‘oneshot

Last Updated on 2025-09-17 by a-indie

A snowfield of memories, accumulated deep over 25 years.

Treading through this deep snow, footprints that should never have appeared emerged before us.

Crushed, an indie-pop duo by Bre Morell of Temple Of Angels and Sean Duncan of Weekend.

Their new song “oneshot” is a requiem dedicated to the solitary sniper, Sniper Wolf, who appeared in the 1998 game ‘Metal Gear Solid.’

When encountering this song and Crushed, it felt less like “meeting a new artist” and more like “reuniting with an old friend.”

Why does a story that moved so many players a quarter-century ago now resurface as music?

What does this story, where past and present crossover, tell us across time?

Also, Crushed’s debut album ‘no scope’ is scheduled for article publication on September 25th (Thursday), the day before the album release, so please look forward to that too!

What is Crushed

First, about the artist Crushed.

The catalyst for Crushed’s formation lies in a late-night radio show.

In the early 2010s, Bre Morell hosted a late-night radio show at university, frequently playing songs by Weekend, the band Sean was once part of.

About 10 years later, Sean broadcast songs by Bre’s band, Temple Of Angels, on his own show.

This led to Bre contacting Sean, which started their duo activities.

In 2023, they released their debut EP ‘extra life,’ and their long-awaited debut album ‘no scope’ will be released on September 26, 2025.

“oneshot” Depicts the Intoxication of Poisonous Love

The “oneshot” we’re examining today is the lead single from their debut album ‘no scope.’

First, I want to dive deep into the lyrical world that forms the core of this story.

What’s depicted here is an excessively self-destructive and highly addictive form of love.
