Message to Listeners and Future Prospects
-Maririn: For this album, of course you want everyone to listen, but who specifically and in what situations do you want people to listen?
Midori Yamada: I keep talking about mixing, but for this mixing, compared to previous sounds, I think it became an audio source where depending on the person, it will feel like “good sound” or not, with a large swing. When I thought about my created data going out into the world compressed on streaming, I made it conscious of people listening to music with simple earphones in trains or amid noise in the city, thinking it would be interesting even if music with sounds that aren’t necessary for such people is mixed in. So I want those people to listen.
-Maririn: You had release parties at Kyoto’s UrBANGUILD and Nagoya’s Tokuzo, right? What was the tension like then? Since it was right after the release, what mindset were you approaching it with?
Ryoken Miyazaki: We became able to create sounds conscious of the audio recording.
Midori Yamada: Yeah, to some extent the correct answer. There’s a ton of “I should have done it like this.” But there was also a sense that this sound image came together and we could move toward one goal.
Soichiro Anzai: I felt like there’s a story connected from beginning to end, and we could do that at the live shows.
Midori Yamada: Before, the gaps between songs were rigid, but since we started making songs for this album, we’ve been connecting gaps with sessions more often. I think the quality of that has improved.
Ryoken Miyazaki: Also, what I want to convey is that our new T-shirts being made are dyed by our own hands. Each one is dyed individually, so please check them out.
-Maririn: You also have a two-man show with NOT WONK on December 14th.
Midori Yamada: We’ve been talking about it since around the end of last year. “Let’s do a two-man at the end of next year.” We used to play together about once a year. There was talk during COVID, but we declined because the hatch was in production. So it’s been a really long time.
Kento Yamazaki: Hasn’t it been since we played at a gallery-like place in Tomakomai?
Midori Yamada: There are often vacant single-story large spaces in local areas. We did a two-man by putting a sound system in there.
Kento Yamazaki: So from about last year, the target of “ending 2025 with a two-man with NOT WONK” was decided.
Ryoken Miyazaki: NOT WONK’s new album is really good.
Kento Yamazaki: After NOT WONK released their new album, they did an absolutely incredible live show. It was so good.
Midori Yamada: We cried on the way home after it ended.

the hatch Band Profile

A band from Hokkaido, currently based in Tokyo. Formed in Sapporo in 2013. While rooted in post-punk, they have grown through self-teaching from Latin music to footwork into a musical style that freely crosses genre boundaries. Their 1st album『Opaque Age』depicted hardcore initial impulses with industrial sound, and their 2nd album『shape of raw to come』released in 2022 developed hybrid alternative incorporating freaky jazz elements into 16-beat hardcore. Last year, with the addition of new member Soichiro Anzai (Perc., Syn.), they became a five-member lineup tilting toward percussive sound. Members consist of Midori Yamada (Vo., Key., Trb.), Ryoken Miyazaki (Gt., Vo.), Zakiyama (Ba.), Ryutaro Iwasaki (Dr.), and Soichiro Anzai.
