The Source of Their Quality Melodies
Subsonic Eye’s Music in Their Own Words
-Yuuki Takita: Your music, while based in jungle pop and indie pop, sometimes emotional, sometimes melancholic, stirs the hearts of listeners with flowing melodies. I feel this musical experience is similar to the emotion of encountering beautiful nature. How would you describe Subsonic Eye in your own words? And what kind of music are you trying to deliver through your activities?
I’m not sure exactly how to describe it, but it’s something that we ourselves would want to listen to and is also a lot of fun for us to play live. We’re all about the driving momentum, single coil guitars and good melodies!
Three Influential Albums
-Yuuki Takita: Your music seems to have influences from bands like Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth, and DIIV. Could you name three albums that have particularly influenced Subsonic Eye’s music? And if possible, please tell us which aspects influenced you and any related stories. If it’s difficult to narrow down to three albums, you can also share albums that individual members particularly love and the stories behind them.
Three albums are,
“Rather Ripped” by Sonic Youth – my introduction to a dry and raw approach to production and songwriting, life changing!
“Any Other City” by Life Without Buildings – absolutely inspiring guitar playing and interplay between all the members
“Simpatico” by Velocity Girl – hits all the right places for me with the very catchy melodies and guitar playing that’s very energetic but also poppy
-Yuuki Takita: Are there any bands from your generation or from the Asian region that you’re particularly conscious of or inspired by?
We’re inspired a lot by the indie rock / twee / jangle scene in Indonesia!!! There’s way too many of them to name haha
Inspiration Beyond Music
-Yuuki Takita: Besides music, are there any cultures or art forms that serve as sources of inspiration for your music creation?
Hiking, rock climbing, street photography, bicycles, crafting, DIY culture!
