A Special Bond with Japan
An Unexpected Response from Japan
—Yuuki Takita: This email interview came about because you contacted us directly through management. I was very happy that you got to know about us as well. Also, you’re performing live in Japan for the first time, and I’m interested in your relationship with Japan. Could you tell us about how you came to perform live in Japan and whether there’s any Japanese music or culture that interests you?
Japan was a complete surprise to us. We started getting instagram messages in Japanese out of nowhere and we thought “Do we have fans in Japan?”. They were all so sweet and asking to see us live so we decided to give it a go and see if we played a show in Tokyo, maybe we would sell tickets. To our surprise we sold out three shows! We’ve never done that anywhere else in the world. It feels very special. The three shows we played – that whole week we got to walk around and discover Tokyo and Osaka – was one of the highlights of our career. I felt very welcomed by not only our crowd but by strangers in the city. Martina started taking Japanese lessons before we travelled and it became a new way to connect with the audience. We started watching Nana together and started sending instagram reels to each other about what we needed to do in Japan. Once we got there and we went to different stores we realized the music that played was similar to ours. We understood why Japan was so welcoming to our sound!
Running in Japan
—Yuuki Takita: I saw on your Instagram Stories that you were enjoying yourselves in Japan. You even ran about 6 kilometers together—do you run regularly? Many artists enjoy sightseeing and food in Japan, but not many do long-distance running, so I was curious!
We love running! I started running in 2025 because I wanted to have more mental peace. Then I realized my breathing got a lot better during rehearsals and that became the main reason to keep going. I got addicted to improving my times and the feeling of achievement it gave me. Martina started running too and we’ve been able to run together which has been so fun! It´s a great way to get to know a city.
The Origin of the Name Pacifica
—Yuuki Takita: What inspired you to choose the name Pacifica? Could you tell us about the story behind the name and what meaning it holds?
We were looking for a name for our first show ever. We wanted it to be short and feminine. Martina looked at my Yamaha Pacifica guitar and said “What about Pacifica?”. It just felt right.
Music That Influenced Them
Three Albums
—Yuuki Takita: I’m also curious about the music that influenced Pacifica. Could you tell us about three albums that influenced Pacifica’s music? And for each one, could you share what aspects influenced you and any episodes or stories related to them?
First, Is This It by The Strokes. It really could be any Strokes album but there’s something about Is This it. It’s fresh, it’s nostalgic, it’s moving. They’re the reason why we met and they will forever influence us.
Secondly, Wolfgang Amadeus by Phoenix. We listened to a whole lot of Phoenix around the time of our second album In Your Face. The clean sounds, the poppy melodies and the energy were very inspiring to us.
And last but not least, Wet Leg by Wet Leg. We found out about them right when Pacifica started. Immediately we loved their sound and cool factor. We listened to that album so much.
