Career as an Artist

Laura Groves has been active as an independent multi-instrumentalist and recording artist for over 10 years.

Alongside her solo work, she has also collaborated with artists such as Ragz Orginale, Darkstar, Sampha, and Jamie Leeming.

Her musical roots trace back to her childhood.

Music was always abundant in her household, inheriting Kate Bush and Fleetwood Mac records from her mother, and discovering New Order through her stepfather.

Moving from Yorkshire to London further expanded her musical world.

Passion for Self-Recording

Self-recording and production form the core of Groves’ creative process.

“Years ago when I got hold of some basic recording software, I was instantly drawn in. The idea of being able to layer up my voice was a dream, like building an orchestra out of what I had at home,” she says.

This passion for home recording and the technique of creating textures with limited resources form the foundation of Groves’ experimental pop music and electronic folk.

Concept of the Work

The new EP “Yes” follows the thread from the previous work “A Private Road” and depicts a journey through the lockdown period.

Set against a backdrop of night-time London streets, radio towers, northern inner-city streets, TV screen static, basement dance floors, and moorland roads, it unearths previously buried fragments of memory.

This EP was created as a “deconstructed and reconstructed pop record” that records threads of memory and ever-present love.

Musical Composition and Sound

“Yes” consists of 4 tracks, with “Deep Blue” already released as an advance single.

The songs utilize fragments of memory from 80s pop songs, R&B, sampling, dance, electronic music, composition for radio and TV, and soul music.

These elements are assembled into one complete picture through Groves’ characteristic use of soft and hazy modulation, reverbs, delays, and EQ.

Production Team

The EP was self-produced, written, and recorded in London.

The production included bassist Ben Reed, mixer TJ Allen, artists Joviale and Fabiana Palladino, and mastering engineer Noel Summerville.

Release Details

This EP represents a new chapter in Laura Groves’ musical exploration and is attracting attention in the indie rock scene.

Her unique soundscapes and poetic lyrics woven together in “Yes” promise to be a must-listen work for summer 2025.
