“futene” by still in a dream: Lo-Fi for Wordless Nights

Last Updated on 2026-01-28 by a-indie

Night Echoes from Ehime💤 What is still in a dream’s Music for “Letting Go of Thought”?

The single “futene,” released by still in a dream on January 28, 2026, is an attempt to capture emotions like “I don’t want to do anything” and “I don’t want to see anyone’s face” not through words, but through sound.

BELONG Media conducted advance listening sessions for this track on Discord, and comments have been received from listeners.

About still in a dream

still in a dream began activities in April 2018 as a solo project by Uomi Eikichi.

Working under the theme of “sound and vision,” inspired by David Bowie’s classic song, he handles all music production and video creation himself.

Since releasing his first digital single “faith” in December 2020, he has released singles in rapid succession in 2025—”lovers,” “-bless me-,” “-tonight-,” and “(to the)inside”—constructing a unique soundscape.

An Ehime DIY Artist Wrapped in ’90s Indie Atmosphere

Particularly with “(to the)inside,” released in October 2025, he garnered attention with a sound that crossed roaring shoegaze incorporating essences of My Bloody Valentine and Curve with rhythmic dance beats.

While based in the regional city of Ehime, his stance of continuously depicting the boundary between dreams and reality through sound radiates a distinctive presence in Japan’s indie scene.

“futene” Depicts Nights Beyond Words

“futene,” as its tagline states—”lo-fi sound that nestles close to nights when you let go of thought”—is a work that directly converts emotional sediment into sound.

Emotions like “I don’t want to do anything” and “I don’t want to see anyone’s face” that everyone has felt at least once. However, when you try to force these into language, they suddenly become shallow.

still in a dream dropped these emotions directly into sound, as if escaping into sleep.

Lo-Fi Texture Connected to Early supercar

In creating this work, he was conscious of the atmosphere of late ’90s Japanese indie and alternative rock.

The lo-fi texture particularly seen in early supercar certainly resides in the sound of “futene.”

A sound image that is rough yet somehow warm. Not a perfectly polished sound, but the deliberately remaining “graininess” supports the reality this song possesses.

Artwork by Ehime Artist Uromoto Utoka

The artwork was created by artist Uromoto Utoka, also from Ehime Prefecture.

Following the previous work “(to the)inside,” he plays the role of visually complementing still in a dream’s worldview.

The visual, which delicately expresses the boundary between dreams and reality, quietly symbolizes the ambiguity of the act of “letting go of thought” that “futene” depicts.

Advance Listening in Discord Community

The Discord community operated by BELONG Media and A-indie conducted advance listening limited to only about 50 trusted members from Japan and overseas.

Through a system using URL shortening services that enables distribution tracking, they build close relationships with fans while minimizing public release risks.

Comments like the following have arrived from community members, showing that this lo-fi sound is certainly “resonating.”

First time listening, but somehow I feel nostalgic💡

I love the overall atmosphere, which is why I wish the melody here would go like this—I’d love it even more!

The gap between wanting to let go of thought and the guitar’s energy😅

I want to listen to this in the morning!

Please listen to this work and try overlaying your own “wordless nights” onto this song.
